A look at Keystone II (with some SFIV in there too)

Ti, 12/30/2008 - 09:57

While the following video we’re going to discuss on 1up.com is billing a Street Fighter IV Pro Player match-up, I am far more interested in the place they are playing it at - Keystone II. We mentioned Keystone II a while back - it’s a small arcade in Northern California that runs on an invite-only basis (I believe) and features several great fighting games to play and on top of that it attracts some of the top players in the area. In the video, they discuss the history of Keystone II and show off what they have there quite a bit, along with some reminiscing of arcades in general. The second half of the video is all about  SFIV and what makes it special, different, etc. I’m not sure if there is much new there but at least check it out for Keystone II. Unfortunately we can’t embed the video here so hit the link below to check it out.

Exclusive pics of the Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom hardware - Wii it is!

Su, 12/28/2008 - 03:16

There has still been some speculation as to what hardware the new Capcom fighter, Tatsunoko Vs Capcom is running on - while some sources stuck firm to the claim of it running on Wii-based hardware, others have stuck with it being something more along the lines of System 256 (which is PS2 based) or similar. Well now we have proof that T Vs. C is running on Wii-based hardware, thanks to these exclusive images that were sent to us by The Stinger Report. Many thanks to them and enjoy!

The first on the left is the T Vs. C hardware in it’s standard case. The second is that same thing but open, the third is what the home Wii hardware looks like when open. While the boards are obviously different in overall design, notice the Nintendo logo in the upper right hand corner of the board on the T Vs C board. It’s interesting to note that the T Vs C hardware includes a WiFi device and no wired ethernet port. One question now is how many other games will they use for this hardware? I think of the TriForce Gamecube-based hardware and that had very little support overall so will developers in Japan take to this as a cheap alternative to something like the Taito TypeX2?  We’ll only know as next year unfolds.

Click on the thumbnails below to see the hardware in full size.

Street Fighter gets an energy drink

Ti, 12/23/2008 - 07:22

I am not a fan of energy drinks but when Street Fighter has an energy drink named “Dragon Punch”, I’m tempted to get one just for the collection value alone. I am not sure what is in this or what flavor it is but what ever it may be, it’s not intended for children (of course, I guess no energy drink is). The artwork on the can is cool enough and you can by a box of 24 cans for about $65 or a single can for about $3. That seems normal for what they charge for energy drinks but unless it turns you into a lean, mean fighting machine then it had better taste good for that price.

Video of KOFXII Japanese location test

Ma, 12/22/2008 - 23:05

All I can say is man this game looks beautiful. I don’t care if it doesn’t use 3D, in fact I appreciate the 2D art (and game style when it comes to fighters) much more. The video speaks for itself below, uploaded by youtube user wx1682

KoF 12 recently had its first loke test and wx1682 has uploaded plenty of matches on their youtube page.   There are tons of vids and I’m sure much information to be gleaned from them.  All I can tell at this point, having limited KoF knowledge, is that the game is gorgeous.  Click here for the [...]skilletor

Street Fighter IV gets new US box art, updated collector's edition specs

La, 12/20/2008 - 10:27

Capcom has released the official rundown of what's in the US collector's editions of Street Fighter IV - and what (or rather who) is not on the game's cover anymore. "We had a total re-think on our SFIV packaging," Capcom's PR director, Chris Kramer, wrote on the Capcom-Unity blog. "As a result of [fan feedback], we have opted to drop the initial Chun-Li packfront in favor of Street Fighter IV art director Ikeno-san's amazing Ryu vs. Ken illustration."

What's in the box is not all that different from what GameStop listed 10 days ago. Priced at $79.99, both the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions come with the game, soundtrack CD, hint book, and either a C. Viper or Ryu figurine (360 and PS3, respectively). The final bit of bundled swag - a new 65-minute anime movie, The Ties That Bind - "sets up the story of SFIV by explaining events post-SFII." The Studio 4°C-produced film is on Blu-ray Disc for PS3 and a special game disc (not a standard DVD) for 360, which has allowed Capcom to encode it at 720p resolution.

Capcom says that the CEs also include "some secret additional downloadable content," which GameStop had previously listed as new costumes, but has since revised. Check out the high-res PS3 and 360 pack shots and CE photos in the gallery below. %Gallery-21918%

New Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fighter coming to Wii

Pe, 12/12/2008 - 03:15

As Scientology teaches us, benevolent aliens are some day going to land on planet Earth and deliver unto us the Usagi Yujimbo Wii game that we all deserve. Until that glorious day, it looks like we'll be able to make due with a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2.5 dimensional fighter in development at Ubisoft.

Sure, it's a licensed game (though not based on any specific movie or show) but it's also got an impressive pedigree, with Nintendo Power reporting a dev team that includes Smash Bros. Brawl and Team Ninja vets. Oh, and it reportedly supports four players and online action. We're not quite at "Cowabunga!" level excited yet, but super mutation could deifinitely put us over the edge.

We'll keep an eye out for more details.

Ninja Gaidenin ja Super Smash Bros Brawlin tekijät Wiin Turtles-tappelun pariin

To, 12/11/2008 - 15:09
Osa Team Ninja -pelistudiota sekä osa Super Smash Bros Brawlin tekijätiimiä on lyöttäytynyt yhteen puurtamaan Ubisoftille Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles -tappelupeliä. Super Smash Bros Brawlin tapaan nimike nähdään ns. 2,5D -näkökulmasta. Ominaisuuksiin kuuluvat mm. interaktiiviset kentät, tarinatila, Battle Royal -tila, Tournament, Winner Stays-Loser Stays -mekaniikat sekä harjoittelutila. Lisäksi pelistä löytyy avattavia hahmoja ja kenttiä. Verkkopeliä kehittäjät lupaavat paremmaksi kuin Super Smash Bros Brawlissa.Tämän vuoden tammikuussa aloitettu pelin kehittäminen kestää pitkälle ensi vuoteen, sillä arvioitu julkaisu tapahtuu syyskuussa 2009.Peli julkaistaan ilmeisesti yksinoikeudella Wiille.(author unknown)
