DAUM PotPlayer Guide
Version: 0.01
Date: 2010-10-22
General Info
You can use the DAUM PotPlayer player to watch Korean live streams, for example the live Tekken stream from Green Arcade. It does not seem to work perfectly in Europe, at least not in Finland. The problem is that there will be some gaps in the stream: You might be able to watch the stream for 2 minutes straight followed by a 2 minute gap. And this is not related to your internet connection. None the less, you are probably able to enjoy watching good matches through the player and that's the reason this guide exists.
As you can see this is a very early version of the guide. Feel free to send feedback through the comments or at Tekken Zaibatsu (private message Entomo).
Step 1: Download and install
Download the player for Windows from DAUM website: http://tvpot.daum.net/application/PotPlayer.do. Install by just always clicking the bold option or whatever looks like a "Yes" button. This worked for me but do this at your own risk! The player should start automatically when install is finished.
Step 2: Adjust network settings
At this point I'm just half guessing, but I believe it's possible to increase the buffer length that's saved on your computer. Longer buffer would mean better viewing experience. So, go to the settings by pressing F5 or via the menu item shown in this picture.
My computer has some trouble with Korean language so some of the text is unreadable. However, find your way to these two sliders and set maximum value to both of them: slider 1 and slider 2
Step 3: Find the Tekken stream(s)
Use the search box on the right shown in this picture. Use the Korean word for Tekken as a search phrase ( 철권 ) and click the blue box after that. If there's multiple results, copy the name of the stream and use google translate. Green Arcade stream should have a star in the beginning and translates to something like "Green Game Land". The other streams might be interesting as well. I was able to find a T6BR arcade stream called 보우게임장 철권6 BR 방송 which featured good players.
Another method to find Green Arcade stream: Sort the streams by audience size using the sort option shown in this picture. Green Arcade stream would probably be somewhere in the top 10-15 and you can recognize it from the thumbnail image.
Step 4: Watch the stream
Click the stream name or thumbnail image to start watching the stream. Most probably it won't run smoothly. There is a trick though: Once the video has finished buffering and actually starts to play, click pause button. You should see that the length of the video is increasing which means that more data is buffered to player. Wait for about 30 seconds or and then click play. If it works, you should be able to watch the stream for about 1 minute without any interruptions. When you're at the end, click pause again and this time try letting it buffer for about 1 minute. At some point the player seems to "skip" a couple of minutes: That couple of minutes is lost, you won't be able to see that. I'm not sure what exactly is causing that, but I suppose it's because your player's buffer is full (need to experiment some more).
Step 5: Registering to DAUM (optional)
Some streams require a DAUM username. A login window will pop up when you try to open the stream. You can register to DAUM here: https://user.daum.net/joinuser/welcome.do. If you use Chrome, the browser might be able to translate the pages for you which makes registering a lot easier. Google translate won't be able to translate the whole pages (uses non-standard port).
DAUM registering instructions:
Page 1) Click the blue registering option shown in this picture (general registering).
Page 2) Agree to terms etc (again on your own risk!), tick both boxes and then click blue button at the bottom.
Page 3) Select registering with a birth date (or something like that), more instructions in this picture
Page 4) Your email. Select your email service from the dropdown select box. Or if it's not there, select the last option and type it to the text field. Click the button next to the dropdown. You will now receive a confirmation email in your inbox. Go check that email and copy the confimation number to the new text field that appeared on the registering page. One more thing will appear on the page: You need to prove you're a human by typing some random letters to a text field (a so called captcha). When done, click the blue button at the bottom.
Page 5) Input user ID and password. More instructions on this picture
Page 6) You're done! Go ahead and use your user ID (or nickname?) to log in at the player.

As mentioned before, feedback regarding this guide is welcome. If you use the comments on this page, you need to pass the spam bot check (a captcha) which unfortunately is in Finnish only. It asks the question "What is the first/second/third/fourth/fifth word in the following sentence". Translations are:
- ensimmäinen = first
- toinen = second
- kolmas = third
- neljäs = fourth
- viides = fifth
